OUR SERVICES
Human resources problems are multi-dimensional so we cannot rely on off-the-shelf solutions. Our services are supported by our ability to communicate complex issues effectively with staff and faculty to foster understanding and acceptance of changes. Services include:
Benefits
Health and Welfare Plans
We provide comprehensive health and welfare benefit consulting
services to help control costs and maximize available resources. Our benefits
consulting services include management of competitive bids, contract negotiation,
plan design audit and cost modeling, consumer driven health plans linked
to HSA’s and/or HRA’s, contribution and alternative funding strategies, and
analysis of claims history and utilization trends. PSL Consulting also has
expertise in retiree health programs and Medicare reform. We have successfully
transitioned clients from defined benefit to defined contribution retiree
health plans that are designed to be fully integrated with Medicare Part
D and take advantage of the changing retiree health market.
Our health care expertise is complemented by our strategic partnership with RPM
Health a leading healthcare consulting company with extensive experience in managed care, underwriting, data analysis, performance measurement and management.
Retirement Plans
PSL Consulting has supported retirement plan reviews and coordinated the unification of faculty and staff retirement plans at several colleges and universities. We have also helped clients develop and implement strategies to move from defined benefit to defined contribution plans.
Early Retirement Plans
The key to a cost effective early retirement plan is a careful analysis of retirement patterns and demographics. Age discrimination, retirement, and tax laws applicable to early retirement plans are complex. With expert knowledge, meticulous analysis and creative design we have helped implement cost effective early retirement plans for several higher education clients
Compensation
PSL Consulting provides a full range of compensation consulting services
and we have developed a broad range of programs for higher education
administrators, faculty and support staff and health care professionals.
Our services include job evaluation and classification, development
of market driven salary structures, analysis of internal equity and
market competitiveness, development of pay processes and policies,
and creation of merit and bonus pay programs.
We provide added value to our higher education clients by drawing on a growing knowledgebase of salary data and compensation practices and have conducted dedicated salary studies for academic and administrative support staff, and athletics coaches.
Employee Relations
Our consultants help higher education and other non-profit
clients successfully handle complicated faculty and staff relations problems—including
discipline and discharge, sexual harassment, tenure disputes, discrimination
complaints, and reductions in staff. More importantly, we provide training
and guidance that help our clients avoid these problems.
We help clients manage change. We not only have in-depth technical expertise, but also the ability to work effectively with faculty and staff, obtain their buy-in, manage their expectations, and anticipate their reactions to actions that are taken and changes that are made. Change can be hard. That is why we embrace a participative approach.
Union Relations
Our consultants are experienced labor relations practitioners and negotiators. We help clients maintain business-like and constructive relations with unions and negotiate collective bargaining agreements that are consistent with the relevant labor market.
Communications
Communicating changes effectively and succinctly is critical to fostering acceptance and is central to our approach. Unless plan documents and communications are comprehensible, benefits and compensation programs are not appreciated. We prepare written communications, plan documents and summary plan descriptions that are understandable and comply with the law. We are available to assist at group meetings and interact with employees to explain changes.
Staffing, Workload and Organizational effectiveness
We have conducted audits of operational departments to identify process and organizational issues related to poor performance and workload imbalance. Dedicated studies we have conducted have allowed clients to assess comparative staffing levels in functional areas among peer organizations.
